Football fan caught on camera urinating next to murdered PC’s memorial is jailed
THE man who sparked outrage for urinating next to the memorial of PC Keith Palmer in London on Saturday has been jailed for two weeks.
Andrew Banks, aged 28, who was photographed during protests in the UK capital over the weekend, pleaded guilty to outraging public decency at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this morning.
Banks, from Stansted in Essex, admitted he drank 16 pints on Friday night and had not slept when he was captured on camera urinating next to the murdered police officer’s memorial. He was in London to “protect statues”, but the court heard he did not know which statues he was supposed to be protecting.
His solicitor Stuart Harris told the court that Banks admitted he was “ashamed by his actions” and that his client had mental health issues.
Banks was not caught by police at the time he was urinating at the memorial, but his photo was plastered across social media. The Tottenham fan’s dad told him to give himself up when he spotted his son’s picture online.
