Best for you!

Amazon Launches New Echo Show 10 Which Always Faces You

Amazon has announced a completely redesigned smart display alongside a new range of Echo speakers (including the Echo 4) and Fire TV streaming devices.

It’s effectively the third-generation Echo Show but adds the 10 suffix which its predecessors have lacked.

It denotes the screen size – 10 inches – which is the largest Amazon offers, alongside the 8- and 5-inch models.

The big new feature is that the screen is motorised, and has a new 13Mp camera which can track you so you’re always in the frame for video calls.

The are stereo speakers in the body behind the screen (along with a woofer and subwoofer), and since the whole assembly moves, both the screen and speakers will be pointing at you when you’re watching video even if you move around. You can watch Netflix, Prime Video and Hulu, your flash briefing or music videos: all the things you can do on the current Echo Show.

Operation is said to be silent: your ears won’t be able to hear the brushless motor which turns the screen.

Here’s how it works and where the speakers are located:

It costs £249.99/$249.99, only £20/$20 more than the previous model. You can pre-order one immediately in one of two colours: Charcoal and Glacier White.

They’ll arrive in time for Christmas, but there’s no word yet on exactly when.

Alexa Group Calling + Zoom

Group calling is a feature lets you chat with up to eight people, but since not everyone has an Echo Show, it’s great news that Amazon is also bringing Zoom to all Echo Show models latest this year.

Alexa Guard

Amazon hasn’t missed any tricks, either, as the screen can also turn in Guard mode, and you can control the rotation via the Alexa app, meaning you can use it like a pan-and-zoom security camera.

The company says it used “advanced computer vision algorithms” which run locally on the AZ1 chip to enable the Show to help keep your home secure. The screen – and camera – will periodically pan the room and alert you (when set to Away Mode) if a person is detected.

You can also securely access the video feed from another Echo Show.

When you don’t want the screen and camera following you around, you can slide the shutter over the lens, or just say, “Alexa, turn off motion.”

Zigbee and Sidewalk

Alongside Bluetooth LE, the Show 10 has the Zigbee hub found in the two previous 10-inch smart displays from Amazon, but there’s also Amazon Sidewalk, which is a new system the company has developed “for devices that stay connected and work great inside and outside your home”.

You can find out more about Amazon Sidewalk.

Can’t wait? These are the best Amazon Echo devices to buy right now.
